Carrizozo Attractions

Carrizozo is the seat of Lincoln County in southeastern New Mexico, it was established in 1899. The name comes from the Spanish word for reed grass.
Women's Club
The Women's Club in Carrizozo is built in the Pueblo Revival architectural style. The Club was built in 1939 and has been the heart of the community.

Ancho, New Mexico
Ancho is a ghost town located 21 miles north of Carrizozo in Lincoln County. The town was all but abandoned after the highway bypassed it in 1955 and the train canceled stops in 1959.

Valley of Fires Recreation Area is west of Carrizozo in the Malpais badlands, the youngest lava flow in the continental United States.
White Oaks, New Mexico
The ghost town of White Oaks is located in Lincoln County, seven miles northeast of Carrizozo on NM 349. Many old buildings are still standing from the 1890s and currently being restored.
