Artesia Attractions
South of Roswell on Highway 285 in Eddy County is the town of Artesia, named for the artesian wells discovered in the area in 1903. Those wells dried up in the 1920s, about the same time that oil was discovered in Artesia. The town is home to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center.
The Artesia Historical Museum and Art Center has a variety of exhibits on farming, ranching, mining, local art and history.
