Acoma Pueblo Attractions

On a 365ft/112m high mesa southwest of Albuquerque are the remains of what is thought to be the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the United States, securely dated on archeological evidence to 1150 but quite probably occupied since the beginning of the Christian era. Beside the pueblo Spanish Franciscans established the mission of San Esteban del Rey in 1629.
The Acoma Pueblo, also known as Sky City, is one of 19 such settlements in New Mexico. The word Acoma means "people of the white rock".
Acoma Pueblo Museum
At the base of Acoma Pueblo is the Acoma Pueblo Museum, with exhibits on Indian culture in the region. Indian pottery from the 15th century to the present is on display.

San Esteban del Rey Mission
San Esteban del Rey Mission is part of Acoma Pueblo. It was established in 1629, completed in 1641, and with the exception of a few years has been in continuous use ever since. The sand used in construction was carried to the mesa top; the log beams were hand-cut and carried from Mount Taylor, over 30 miles away.
