The first know inhabitants of Salem County were Lenni-Lennape Indians. The first European immigrants to settle in this area were the Swedes and Finns in 1638. In 1675, a group of Quaker settlers established the earliest permanent English settlement in West Jersey.
The Alexander Grant House is a restored 1721 home featuring historical exhibits from the Colonial and Federal periods. It is the home of the Salem County Historical Society. One of the signature displays is Wistarburg glass and decorative arts.
Fort Mott was erected in 1896, as part of a three fort defense system, in anticipation of the Spanish-American War. As part of the coastal defense system designed for the Delaware River, troops were stationed at Fort Mott from 1897 to 1922.
The park features a nature interpretive trail and picnic areas.
