Paterson was planned as America's first industrial city, the Great Falls of Passiac River was the inspiration. Great Falls Historic District is a famous neighbourhood in Paterson that is also home to the Paterson Museum. The Eastside Park Historic District consists of about 1,000 homes featuring a variety of architectural styles.

American Indian artifacts; mineralogy collections; archaeological, historical and geological exhibits; and a display about the silk industry are all part of the museum exhibits.
