Highlands Attractions
Highlands is popular with summer vacationers and anglers. The town took its name from the hills that rise abruptly from the shore.
Twin Lights State Historic Site
The Navesink Light Station, or the Twin Lights, is perched atop the Highlands below Sandy Hook. The first twin towers were built in 1828, in 1841 it became the first American lighthouse to use fresnel lenses, which increased brightness. Exhibits include a Marconi Wireless Telegraph Exhibit and United States Lifesaving Service in the galleries that were once quarters for the keepers of the light.
