Camden began as the site of William Cooper's ferryboat operation, in the 1680s, on the Delaware River. Shipbuilding boomed during WWI and WWII because the Delware River provided an excellent port.
The Adenture aquarium has a 760,000 gallon tank that contains a submerged shipwreck and over 1,500 fish. Other exhibits include seals and penguins, touch tanks, shark area, outdoor trout stream, aquatic nursery and interactive exhibits.
The Battleship New Jersey is the most decorated battleship in the United States. It is now a floating museum on the Delaware River. Visitors can experience a guided tour through the Iowa-class ship, one of the largest battleships ever built.

The Camden Children's Garden provides horticultural experiences including a 4 acre interactive Garden includes a Butterfly Garden, Railroad Garden, Dinosaur Garden, Maze, Picnic Garden, Treehouse, Amphitheater, Carousel and Storybook Gardens.
Two floors of exhibits at Camden County Historical Society Museum feature 300 years of local life including the Lenape Indians and Civil War artifacts to weaving, blacksmithing and local industrial history.
Pomona Hall, an 18th-century mansion, is located on the grounds. It is furnished in period and recreates the Colonial Quaker lifestyle of the Cooper family.
