Batsto Attractions
Batsto was established in 1766 and became a prominent iron foundry. Over 1,000 people were employed at the ironworks, brickyard, gristmill, sawmill and glassworks after the Revolutionary War. Competition caused fortunes to dwindle and it became a virtual ghost town. In 1876, Joseph Wharton bought Batsto and the surrounding 100,000 acres.
Basto Historic Village features the restored 19th century village and Batsto Mansion - the restored ironmaster's mansion; a sawmill, gristmill and workers' house; general store and post office.
