's-Heerenberg Attractions
The little town of 's-Heerenberg lies 30km/20mi southeast of Arnhem, close to the German frontier. A trading settlement grew up around the castle of the Counts van den Bergh, one of the better known castles in the Netherlands. The town received its municipal charter in 1379.
Art, Evolution and ESP Museum
There is an interesting museum of spare-time art, evolution and extra-sensory perception.
Bergher Bos
North of 's-Heerenberg in the hilly Montferland area, which rises to 93m/305ft, is the Bergher Bos, an expanse of mixed woodland which was originally a coniferous forest.
Gouden Handen
The Gouden Handen leisure park at Emmerikseweg 13 is housed in the grounds of a former monastery.
Huis Bergh
A round keep built here in the 12th century developed in the 15th century into a tower house, which was enlarged in the 17th century to become the family seat of the Counts van den Bergh. The house has suffered some damage over the centuries.
To be found in the castle is a notable collection of medieval art.
