Heemstede Attractions

Leave Haarlem on the Hoofddorp road (N 201), which in 4km/2.5mi comes to Heemstede (Museum of Land Reclamation), on the edge of the Haarlemmermeer polder. Here, where N 201 bears left, keep straight ahead, passing on the left the Flora flower show grounds.

The residential suburb of Heemstede, with a number of 18th century country houses including Bosbeek, Hartekamp and Huis te Manpad.
Hartekamp was the summer home of George Clifford and the surrounding gardens are open to visitors.
De Cruquius Museum
Southeast of Heemstede, at Cruquiusdijk 27-32 (in the direction of Hoofddorp), is the De Cruquius Museum, housed in one of the three 19th century pumping stations used to drain the Haarlemmermeer. When the other two pumping stations were enlarged it was no longer needed, and now houses a museum devoted to the Dutch struggle against water.
