Doorn Attractions

The little town of Doorn, where the ex-kaiser of Germany, Wilhelm II, spent his last years, lies southeast of Utrecht.
The town is a major base for the Royal Dutch Marines and has Doorn Manor, a 15th century house with surrounding landscaped gardens.

This medieval castle was reconstructed in Classical style in the 1700s. Today Huis Doorn is a museum with collections of furniture and other displays, including snuff-boxes of Frederick the Great.
Kasteel Maarsbergen
North of Doorn, at the village of Maarsbergen, is Kasteel Maarsbergen (restored), which dates from the 17th century.

Langbroek Waterway
The Langbroeker Wetering is a stretch of territory along the Kromme Rijn, in which are a number of castles dating from the 13th and 14th centuries and rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. The castles (not open to the public) are reminiscent of the châteaux of the Loire and have earned this area the popular name of the "Loire of the Netherlands". Among them are Beverweerd, Sterkenburg, Moersbergen, Hardenbroek, Sandburg, Zuylenburg and Broekhuizen (built 1810 in Empire style).

Van Gimborn Arboretum
To the west of Maarsbergen lies the Van Gimborn Arboretum (established 1924), an area of 23 hectares/57 acres planted with conifers and deciduous trees, heath plants, dwarf shrubs and a Tsuga forest.
