North Platte Attractions
North Platte (pop. 24,000) is a railroad town that was the home of "Buffalo Bill" Cody. Fort McPherson Cemetery was once occupied by Fort McPherson, a military post along the Oregon Trail. The cemetery has many Buffalo soldiers and Medal of Honor figures buried there.
The Buffalo Bill State Historical Park is home to Buffalo Bill's Ranch "Scout's Rest" with a restored house and barn. Mementos depict Cody's personal life and his Wild West show.
Cody Park in North Platte is the home of the Cody Park Railroad Museum, the Wild West Memorial and a life-size bronze statue of Buffalo Bill. There are carnival rides, swimming facilities and a petting zoo.
The Lincoln County Historical Museum is the home of the North Platte Canteen which contains memorabilia and artifacts from the Second World War.
