Hinnøy Island
The much ramified island of Hinnøy is Norway's largest island after Spitzbergen. Half of the island (the western and southern parts) is in Nordland county, the other half (the northeastern part) in Troms county.

Harstad - Trondenes Church
On a peninsula 3km/2mi northeast of Harstad stands the stone church of Trondenes (built about 1250), which in the Middle Ages was the most northerly church in Christendom.
Kjeøy
Offshore, northeast of Harstad, is the little island of Kjeøy, with rock paintings (hellemalerier) dating from the Stone Age.
Lødingen
From Harstad's Tjeldsund bridge Road 19 runs south along the coast. At the south end of the island a side road goes off on the left to Lødingen (church, pastor's house), from which there is a ferry to Bognes, to the south.
