Nanjing - Purple Mountain Observatory

(Local Name: Zijinshan Tianwentai) The observatory, which is situated on a western summit of the Purple Mountain, was founded in 1934 and is the largest astronomical research institute in China. It possesses many modern astronomical instruments, but also some from previous centuries, including a bronze armillary sphere from the Ming era (1368-1644).
