Museum of the Taiping Uprising Description
(Local Name: Taiping Tianguo Lishi Bowuguan) This building originally formed part of a palace belonging to the first ruler of the Ming dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang (1328-98). In 1853, when the Heavenly Taiping Kingdom chose Nanjing to be its capital, one of its most important military leaders, Yang Xiuqing, resided here. In 1958 the Museum of the Taiping Uprising (Taiping Tianguo Lishi Bowuguan) was housed in the building.
