(Local Name: Zhanyuan) The Garden with the Fine View (Zhanyuan), which lies to the west of the Confucius Temple, was the private garden of General Xu Da at the beginning of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). It was given its present name by Emperor Qianlong (reigned 1736-96), who was responsible for the two ideograms on the plaque over the entrance.
