Goegap Nature Reserve

15km/9mi southeast of Springbok (most easily reached on R 355) is the Goegap Nature Reserve (area 15,000 ha/37,000ac), which is worth a visit even outside the wild flower season. The vegetation in the reserve is typical of Namaqualand, with succulents, shrubs and the bizarre kocurboom tree, and of course a luxuriant show of blossom in spring. Among the larger mammals in the reserve are antelopes and mountain zebras. There is no accommodation for visitors, but there are a number of picnic areas and three short circular hiking trails.
