Fakse

25 km/16mi east of Næstved the little town of Fakse lies by a limestone hill 76m/250ft high with a quarry which has been used since the Middle Ages. In the Geological Museum are displays of minerals and fossils found in the coral reef of the Cretaceous period. Now only limestone and chalk for industrial purposes is quarried here. Surrounded by woods on Fakse Bay, to the southeast of Fakse, is the resort of Fakse Ladeplads, from the harbor of which Fakse limestone has been shipped since the Middle Ages.
