Murtensee / Lac de Morat
From the Monument to the Battle of Murten the road runs close to the southeast shore of the Murtensee or Lac de Morat (alt. 433 m/1,421ft; area 27 sq. km/10 sq. mi, length 9km/6mi, greatest depth 46 m/151ft), which is linked with the Lac de Neuchâtel by the River Broye (motorboat traffic). To the right is the flat-topped Mont Vully or Wistenlacher Berg (657 m/2,156ft) which lies between the Murtensee and the Lac de Neuchâtel.
2km/1mi beyond the monument is Faoug (pronounced Foo; German Pfauen), from which a road descends on the right to a beach station and camp site (inn), 2.5km/2mi west on the wooded shores of the lake, and follows a fairly straight and level course to Avenches, passing the remains of the Roman town just before reaching the modern town.
