Rothbury - Cragside House, Garden and Estate
Cragside is a Victorian estate and mansion. From its vantage point visitors are afforded spectacular views of a picturesque valley. Spread out around its half-timbered walls and battlements is a splendid garden rich in rhododendrons.
Within the house are excellent examples of paintings, furniture and stained glass. The most notable room in the house is the drawing room, slightly detached from the rest of the house and hewed out from the very rock that forms the foundation of the house.
The 1000-acre grounds include man-made lakes, millions of trees and shrubs, a walled garden, an orchard house, ferneries, an Italian garden and hundreds of rose bushes.
