Montréal - Musée d'archéologie et d'histoire

At the south-east orner of Place Royal in Montreal lies the Pointe-à-Callière, the "cradle of Montréal city". Two plaques and an obelisk, the work of Québécois artists, unveiled in 1894, commemorate the founding of the French settlement of Ville-Marie here in the late spring of 1642. The Musée d'archéologie et d'histoire, in buildings which are themselves of architectural interest, documents the city's beginnings. Remains of 17th and 18th c. foundations can be seen in the basement.
