Iliiliopae - Wailau Trail
Wailau trail begins near Iliiliopae Heiau and is the only route that connects south and north Molokai. It leads into Wailau Valley, one of the three valleys beginning in the eastern part of the Pali Coast. The inhabitants of the valley left 200 years ago. The trail is strenuous, needs suitable clothing and footwear, and takes a whole day.
The walk passes first of all through the densely-overgrown land and then leads down into Wailau Valley, following Wailau River to the coast.

This area is very isolated - only a few fishermen will be encountered along the river.
As it is impossible to stay overnight on the northern side of Molokai, walkers must be picked up by boat from Halawa, and collection should be arranged the day before. Permission is also needed to follow the Wailau Trail. For further information contact the Molokai Visitors Association. It should be pointed out once again that this trail is very strenuous and suitable only for strong walkers.
