Loskop Dam Nature Reserve Description
North of Middelburg is the Loskop Dam Nature Reserve. This reservoir was created in 1938 by the construction of a 40m/130ft high dam on the Olifants River. Near the reservoir is a lookout from which there are magnificent views of this region of wooded hills. There are bathing and fishing in the reservoir. In the nature reserve surrounding it live rhinos, ostriches, giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, kudus and wildebeests. There is accommodation for visitors in the form of holiday houses and a camping site.
