Muskegon Tourist Attractions

Formerly known as the Lumber Queen of the World, the town of Muskegon suffered when the logging boom dissipated. The harbor and new enterprises allowed the town to prosper and become a mixture of industry, tourism, culture and recreational activities.
Some of the highlights of Muskegon include the beaches and dunes, Michigan's Adventure Amusement & Water Park, Muskegon's Winter Sports Complex complete with a luge run, as well as numerous museums, and festivals.
Cross the Lake Express high-speed ferry transports visitors from Muskegon to Milwaukee in 2.5 hours.

Hackley & Hume Historic Site

This is the home of Muskegon's most famous lumber baron, Charles Hackley, and his business partner, Thomas Hume. Hume's house is large and spacious is more like a "family-dwelling". This reflects the fact that Thomas and Margaret had a young family of seven to raise at the time of construction. Charles Hackley's house is much more of a "showcase". Their elaborately detailed home was essentially a retirement home which exhibits their wealth and culture.
The carriage barn is a massive three story structure which housed horses for both families.

Muskegon County Museum

Permanent exhibits at the Muskegon County Museum include lumbering tools, mastodons and dinosaurs, Native American artifacts, natural history as well as hands-on exhibits in the Science Center, filled with both natural and physical science activities and Body Works. Collections related to the Hackley & Hume Historic Site are featured as well.

USS Silversides

Commissioned just eight days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the USS Silversides sank 30 ships and damaged 14 ships. She holds the third highest rank among all World War II U.S. submarines in ships sunk. Visitors can view the sub's compartments and see how the sailors lived and worked.

Muskegon Museum of Art

The Muskegon Museum of Art features American artists including Ralph Albert Blakelock, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper and James Abbot McNeill Whistler. The European collection includes ancient glass to contemporary art.

Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center

The Gillette Sand Dune Visitor Center features the story of Michigan's sand dunes through programs, exhibits and hands-on displays.

Michigan's Adventure Amusement Park

Michigan's Adventure Amusement Park offers over 40 rides, including 6 roller coasters, and a water park with 20 water slides.
