Zacapoaxtla Attractions

After travelling 15km/9.3mi in a westerly direction the visitor passes the springs of Chignautla. 46km/29mi from Teziutlán in the same direction, just past Zaragoza, a road branches off to the town of Zacapoaxtla 17km/10.5mi to the north (1800 m (5905 ft); population 31,000; fiesta: beginning of May and June 29th, San Pedro; Wednesday market). The town lies in magnificent mountain countryside, often shrouded in mist, and is distinguished by its varied and unspoilt scenery and the customs of its different Indian tribes. Its festivals, handed down through generations by the Nahua, Otomí and Totonac Indians, are among the most colourful and fascinating in the whole country. In the town the church of Guadalupe de Libres and the parish church of San Pedro should be seen.
