Continuing westwards past El Tamuín on the MEX 70, about 30km/20mi after Tamuín, the town of Ciudad Valles (90 m (295 ft); population 195,000) is reached. Situated in the state of San Luis Potosí, it is an agricultural centre with a small archaeological museum and a series of attractive thermal baths, caves and waterfalls close by.
