Calpan Attractions
10km/6mi from Huejotzingo on an unsurfaced road lies Calpan (Náhuatl for "in the houses"), now also known as San Andrés Calpan, which boasts another interesting Franciscan friary founded in 1548. The simple Plateresque façade of the church has sculptured decoration, including representations of agave plants. In the interior will be found a triumphal arch decorated with the Franciscan rope-girdle. At the corners of the atrium stand four fine posas richly decorated with sculpture in the form of flowers, geometric patterns, the Annunciation, the Last Judgment, Franciscan symbols, etc.
