Mértola - Archeological Digs

Since 1980 archeologists have been systematically digging near the castle and church, exposing Roman foundations and mosaic, and unearthing Islamic ceramics. The oldest pieces date from the 10th C. and are from Andalusia. These finds, together with other exhibits, are on display in four small museums in Mértola.
