Cabo Tres Forcas
An excursion can be made, on a poor road, to the tip of the peninsula, Cabo Tres Forcas (25km/15mi north of Melilla). This outpost of the Moroccan coast, reaching far out into the Mediterranean, falls vertically down to the sea in 400m/1,300ft high cliffs. From the lighthouse there are magnificent views.

Playa Charranes
On the way back from Cabo Tres Forcas to Melilla it is worth making a detour to Playa Charranes, a beautiful sandy beach on the northwest coast of the Beni Sicar (Gelaia) peninsula. This whole area belongs to Morocco, so that this excursion means crossing the frontier.
