Melbourne - Victorian Arts Centre

Melbourne's status as a metropolis of art and culture is confirmed by the Victorian Arts Centre. An unmistakable landmark is the 115m high lattice-work spire of steel and aluminum over the largest of the three theaters in the complex, on St Kilda Road, which creates a particularly fantastic effect when illuminated at night. The planning of the Arts Centre began in 1956. Here in the last 30 years Australia's largest stage, the Melbourne Concert Hall (with seating for 2500), close to the river, the Performing Arts Museum and the Westpac Gallery have all come into being.
