Wismar Bay

(Local Name: Wismarbucht) In Wismar Bay, between the morainic hills of the Klützer Winkel in the west (Heidberg, near Grevesmühlen, 113 m/371ft; Hoher Schönberg, 90 m/295ft) and Kühlung in the east (Diedrichshagener Berge, 130 m/425ft), are not only the old Hanseatic town of Wismar but a number of much frequented bathing areas. The most westerly is at Boltenhagen, which became popular in the 19th C. More recently the shallow Wohlenberger Wiek has come into favor. The Salzhaff at Rerik is popular with water sports enthusiasts.
