The inhabitants of this little town on Cape Ann have been since time immemorial fishermen and seamen. This old tradition is commemorated in the bronze statue of the Gloucester Fisherman in the harbour and the museum of the Cape Ann Historical Association. Gloucester is also noted for the artists' colony of Rocks Neck.
Beauport was built by Henry Davis Sleeper in 1907 as a summer home. It was expanded upon for the next 27 years and now features 40 rooms full of curiosities, folk art, china, or colored glass. Henry Davis Sleeper was a collector and interior designer, his collection of American and European art and artifacts are also on display.

Hammond Castle Museum is a medieval-style castle that was built between 1926 and 1929 by John Hays Hammond, Jr., an inventor. On display in the building are his personal collection of Roman, Medieval, and Renaissance artifacts.
