To the south of Commonwealth Avenue is the residential suburb of Brookline (pop. 55,000). It is one of the largest towns in Massachusetts and is located only 4 miles (6.4 km) from downtown Boston.
The house in which John F. Kennedy was born has been preserved to the era of his birth. It has numerous mementoes of the 35th President of the United States.
The house is listed as a National Landmark and is on the National Register of Historic Places. Guided tours of the area are offered.

Located in the historic, castle-like carriage house owned by Larz and Isabel Anderson, the museum houses America's oldest collection of automobiles. The museum exhibits explore the impact of the car on 19th and early 20th century life. It hosts a program of traveling exhibits and special lectures and community events including auto shows.
