Maryborough - Surroundings

Ulula Lagoon, an old reservoir outside the town, is the haunt of many water birds. Attractive excursions are to Rainbow Beach and the Cooloola Coast to the south (90km).

27km north of Maryborough is Burrum Heads (pop. 900), a holiday resort in Hervey Bay. Near Burrum Heads is Woodgate National Park (area 5490ha; campsites, barbecue areas), which is worth visiting at any time of year. There are walking trails through the beautiful coastal region, with sand dunes and mangrove swamps.
