Marburg - St Elizabeth's Church
Marburg's finest building is the famous St Elizabeth's Church (1235-83; towers ca. 1340). After the Liebfrauenkirche in Trier, it is the earliest church in Germany in purely Gothic style.
The original furnishings are almost completely preserved, including (in the sacristy) the golden shrine (ca. 1250) which until 1539 contained the relics of St Elizabeth of Thuringia.
