Maktar - Punic Forum / Temple of Bacchus
Along the paved decumanus to the west of the Great Baths is the old Punic Forum used by the Libyan/Punic population of Maktar. Just north of this is the Temple of Bacchus (Liber Pater), of which little remains apart from a double crypt; the present masonry belongs to a later building.
To the west of the Punic Forum is a street intersection. To the right are the remains of the Châtelain Building, named after the French archeologist who discovered it, and the Northern Baths, which have fine pavement mosaics. The street on the left along the side of the Punic Forum leads to the numerous remains in the southwestern corner of the site, beginning with the Schola of the Juvenes.
