York Attractions

York (pop. 13,000) was settled in 1624 under the name Agamenticus and became the town of York in 1652. York is one of the oldest towns in Maine. The town contains a number of Colonial structures such as churches and houses, dating from the 1700s.

The York River makes this area a popular place for boating, swimming, hiking, and other outdoor recreational activities.

York Wild Kingdom features a variety of animals from around the world. Rides, mini golf, and other amusement facilities are also available but have more limited hours than the zoo.

York Harbor - Sayward-Wheeler House, Maine

The Sayward-Wheeler House was built in 1718 in York Harbor and was the home of Jonathan Sayward. He was involved in the attack on the French fortress at Louisbourg and some of the items on display in the house were items he brought back from this expedition. Also on display are original furnishings and family portraits.
