Wiscasset Tourist Attractions

The picturesque little port of Wiscasset is the haunt of artists and writers. Features of interest are the Maine Art Gallery and the Lincoln County Museum. The Musical Wonder House has a collection of old mechanical musical instruments.Wiscasset (pop. 3,600) is the county seat of Lincoln County.
Maine Heritage Village
Maine Heritage Village has a full menu restaurant, shopping and an historic State of Maine exhibit. The exhibit and displays are filled with information about the State of Maine and its historic past. Visitors can stroll the grounds and relax on the village green, or visit all of the Maine craftsman working in their shops. The shops contain a variety of Maine Made products including, oil paintings by local artists, homemade pies, clothing, hand made quilts, jam, and jewelry.
Nickels-Sortwell House
The Nickels-Sortwell House was built in 1807 in Wiscasset by ship owner and trader Captain William Nickels. The Embargo Act of 1807, followed by the War of 1812 led to financial problems for many of the families involved in the shipping industry. Consequently the house was turned into a hotel in the 1830s. It was later bought by Alvin Sortwell who refurbished the house and turned it into his summer residence.
Castle Tucker House Museum
Castle Tucker House Museum is an 1807 Federal-style mansion overlooking the Sheepscot River. It was built by Judge Silas Lee. In 1858, Captain Richard Tucker bought the house and made a number of upgrades and additions. Federal and Victorian furniture, art and other old household items are on display in the home.
Fort Edgecomb State Historic Site
Located on Davis Island in the Sheepscott River, Fort Edgecomb traces its origins to the early 19th C. The events of the Fort's history when war in Europe led to the construction of forts to protect local residents are presented through interpretive panels.
Old Lincoln County Jail and Museum
The Old Lincoln County Jail in Wiscasset was used between 1811 and 1953. The Jailor's House is attached and displays 19th century furnishings, household items, and tools. The museum also offers changing exhibits.
Musical Wonder House
The Musical Wonder House houses a collection of mechanical musical instruments, including musical boxes, player pianos, and other antiques.
