Madrid - San Antón
The Church of San Antón in Madrid was built by Pedro de Ribera, but little is left to show the work of this master of Baroque architecture, for the church was reconstructed by Francisco de Rivas in Neo-Classical style during the reign of Charles IV. Only the interior betrays its Baroque origin in its ground-plan (rectangular, with semicircular side chapels and short transepts). The church's most precious possession is a picture by Goya, "The Last Communion of San José de Calasanz" (1819), in the south transept. At the corner of the church facing the Escuelo de los Escolapios is one of the few drinking fountains still working in Madrid, the Fuente de los Delfines (Dolphin Fountain, 1770) by Ventura Rodríguez.
