Madrid - Romantic Museum
(Local Name: Museo Romaàntico) The Romantic Museum is housed in a late 18th C. palace in one of the narrow lanes dating from the 19th C. expansion of Madrid. The nucleus of the museum was the collection of the Marqués de la Vega Inclán, which was bequeathed to the State in 1920.
The architecture and furnishing of the museum and the works of art displayed in it - including pictures by Murillo, Zurbarán, Mengs, Goya and Sorolla - are redolent of the atmosphere of aristocratic and upper-middle-class life in the reign of Isabella II.
