Plaza de la Lealtad Description
In the green central promenade of the Paseo del Prado stands the Apollo Fountain, a statue to the four seasons (Alfonso Giraldo Vergaz, Manuel Alvarez; 1777). On the adjacent Plaza de la Lealtad the Dos de Mayo Obelisk commemorates the dead of the uprising on May 2, 1808 (by Isidro González Velázquez). In the northeast corner of the square can be seen the Bolsa or stock exchange, built in 1884 in emulation of the Vienna stock exchange. In the east of the square is the famous Hotel Ritz, built in 1908 to plans by Charles Mewès.
