Madrid - Art Gallery El Casón

Together with the nearby Museo del Ejército (Army Museum) and the Parque del Retiro, the Casón was part of the former royal residence, the Real Sitio del Buen Retiro, erected by the Habsburgs in the 17th C. Built by Alonso Carbonell in 1638, ith ceiling-frescoes by Luca Giordano, it was the royal ballroom. During the 19th C. it housed in succession a Topographical Cabinet, a riding-school, a sports hall and finally a Museum of Reproductions.
