25km/15mi west of Lyons is L'Arbresle (pop. 4,900), with the Dominican convent of Ste-Marie- de-la-Tourette, built by Le Corbusier in 1957-1959.
Southwest of Lyons is Chazelles-sur-Lyon (pop. 5,000), once famous as a hat- manufacturing town. The Musée du Chapeau (Hat Museum) is a mine of information on the hat-maker's craft, its importance to the region and fashions in hats.

Ambronay - Abbey Festival
This annual festival takes place during four weekends between June and September. There are over a dozen organized events, including orchestral, choral and chamber concerts and piano recitals.

Bourg-en-Bresse (pop. 40,628), the old capital of the district of Bresse, lies in southeastern Burgundy, on the western fringes of the French Jura. It is noted not only for the famous poulets de Bresse which are reared in this area but for a jewel of Gothic architecture, the monastic church of Brou.
Bourg was also the birthplace of the astronomer Gérome Lalande (1732-1807) and the historian Edgar Quinet (1803-1875).

Monastery of Brou
In the harmonious interior, which is entered through a richly decorated Renaissance doorway, are a magnificent rood screen and beautiful old stained glass. The choir has 74 fine carved oak stalls (1530-1532) and contains three tombs (in the center Duke Philibert II of Savoy, d. 1504; on the left his wife Margaret of Austria, d. 1530; on the right Margaret of Bourbon, d. 1483) and fine stained glass. On the left of the choir is the Chapelle de la Vierge, with a marble altar decorated with scenes from the life of the Virgin.
The cloisters and monastic cells now house a folk museum.

La Balme-sur-Cerdon - Cerdon Caves, France

The Cerdon Caves begin where a former river sunk below ground and winds to where the river would have resurfaced. The cavities have been used for many purposes since prehistoric times. Originally they were used as shelter, then as refuge for lepers in the Middle Ages, and more recently as storage for maturing blue cheese.
There are many geological wonders in the cave, including formations called the "Cambodian Statue" and the "Canopy." There are also various porches, including one that is 30 meters high.

Marcy-l'Etoile - Château de la poupée
Above the village of l'Etoile is the Château de l'Etoile. Panoramas of the Jura also make the climb up the hill worthwhile. Château de la poupée houses a collection of dolls, dollhouses and other doll related items.

This excellent museum covers the development of electricity from the time of the Greeks up to the developments of Coulomb. It is presented in a simple fashion so that children and laymen will be able to understand the concepts behind the science of electricity.

Suze-La Rousse
Suze-La Rousse Château is a medieval fortress that was built between the 12th and 14th century. It began as a wooden tower and was upgraded to the building that stands today. The interior of Suze-La Rousse Château features a grand staircase that occupies an entire wing of the palace, Hall of Arms and octagonal salon.
