Grand Duchy of Luxembourg South Attractions

The primary activities of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg take place in the southern half of the country.
Bascharage, Luxembourg
Bascharage is located on the Luxembourg-Paris main road and at the crossroads of the mining district and the green valleys of the Capellen country. Throughout the year, upon request, guided tours are available at the following companies: Norton S.A. (Clipper) and Taillerie de Pierres Précieuses (gem cutting).
Kayl, Luxembourg
Kayl and Tétange are located in the Kayl valley. There is a national miner's monument in the town and the impressive red quarry bottom is surrounded by deep green serving as a reminder of the former open-cast mine.

Other places of interest are: the "Léiffrächen" sanctuary, the former shoe factory in Tétange (now a cultural center with seminars), the "Bannmillen" leisure ground in Kayl, as well as hiking and biking areas.

Lorentzweiler, Luxembourg
The town of Lorentzweiler (pop. 2,500) is a modern and clean locality, is situated on the banks of the river Alzette in the valley of the same name. On both sides of the valley rise wooded hills, criss-crossed by footpaths.
Mamer, Luxembourg
The 1,000-year-old village of Mamer (pop. 4,400) is a quiet village, with pleasant trails running through 380 hectares of forest. It is only a few kilometers from the city of Luxembourg, at the entrance to the Mamer Valley. It lies along the European highway Luxembourg-Brussels. There are remains of Roman baths and excellent spots for picnicking and camping.

Mamer contains the districts of Cap/Capellen and Holzem.
Rumelange, Luxembourg
Rumelange (pop. 3,800) is a small industrial town and mining center at the southern end of the wooded Kayl valley. The town has shooting grounds, some underground iron mines no longer in operation, and a national mine museum.

Tips
From November 1 to Easter the Museum is open only on the second Saturday and Sunday in each month, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The last guided tour begins at 5 p.m.
Sandweiler, Luxembourg
Sandweiler is a modern town on E27 (Saar-Luxembourg) and home to Luxembourg's international airport. There is also a German military cemetery with over 10,000 graves of servicemen from the Battle of the Bulge.
Sanem, Luxembourg
Sanem, Belvaux, Ehlerange and Soleuvre are located in grassy countryside.

In Sanem there are a Galgenberg leisure center, a children's playground, a mountain biking trail, a 13th C. castle, an historic church, sports pitches and walks, a car/hiking circuit on the hills surrounding the area, and a panoramic view of the Zolverknapp (420 m). There are 40 children's playgrounds in the surrounding districts.

In Belval-Metzerlach there is a modern church.
Schifflange, Luxembourg
Schifflange is a town situated between the wide valley of the Alzette and a ridge of high, wooded hills rich in iron ore. It is known for its resistance, especially during the general strike of 1942, to the Nazis. There are walking paths through the old ore grounds around Schifflange, good sports possibilities, a natural protected zone and an art gallery.
Steinfort, Luxembourg
Steinfort is a border station on the Arlon-Luxembourg road and an entry point into the Eisch valley. It is a good starting point for a tour of the Seven Castles in the valley. Steinfort has good sports possibilities and a fishing pond.
