Gandria - Driving tour from Lugano
This driving tour runs 5km/3mi via Cassarate and Castagnola to the Gandriastrasse (Gandria road), which runs south to Porlezza and Lake Como (Italy).
The last part of the trip must be done on foot, to the picturesque village of Gandria (alt. 300 m/984ft; pop. 196), a typical Ticinese settlement clinging picturesquely to a steep slope rising from the lake (narrow lanes, arcades, Baroque church).
To the southeast is the Italian village of Santa Margherita, from which there is a funicular to the Belvedere di Lanzo (887 m/2910ft; good views).
