Ludwigslust - Schloss
The layout of Ludwigslust is centered on a main axis running from the Schloss to the Town Church (by J. J. Busch). The Late Baroque Schloss (1772-76) is built in brick with a facing of Elbe sandstone. It has a striking main front, with 40 over-life-size statues and 14 vases along the roof. The principal feature of the interior is the Golden Hall, two stories in height, with rich decoration (partly in papier-mâché).
Below the main front is a richly decorated cascade (1780), fed by a specially constructed canal (1757-61).

Schlosspark
North and west of the Schloss in Ludwigslust extends the Schlosspark. It was originally laid out in Baroque style, but in the early 19th C. part of it was converted into a landscaped park by P. J. Lenné. Among surviving Baroque features are the Grand Canal and stone bridge (both c. 1760) and, farther north, the artificial ruin and the Swiss cottage (Schweizerhaus).
