Ludlow Castle
|
|
The castle was constructed by Roger de Lacy in 1085 to be a defensive fort on the Welsh border. Its oldest part is the almost 66ft/20m high Norman keep, from the top of which a fine view can be enjoyed. Building of the parish church of St Laurence began in 1199, but was not completed until the 14th century; it was partly redesigned during restoration work carried out in the 19th century by Sir Gilbert Scott and Sir Arthur Bloomfield.
