University of Southern California (USC)

This private university was established on its present site (3551 University Avenue, Harbor Freeway, exit 9th Exposition Avenue) two years before the UCLA, and in the interim has grown to have 32,000 students (53 students registered in its first year). The present campus covers an area of some 150 acres/60 hectares, on which stand nearly 90 university buildings.

University of Southern California - Fisher Gallery
Elizabeth Holmes Fisher founded the Fisher Gallery in 1939. Permanent collections include groups of 19th century American landscapes; 18th and 19th century Northern paintings; 18th century British portraiture; and 19th century Barbizon paintings, as well as 20th century works on paper, paintings and sculpture. The Fisher Gallery was the first of its kind in Los Angeles devoted exclusively to fine arts!

University of Southern California - Hancock Memorial Museum
The original Hancock mansion was built in 1909 in classical Palladian style after the famed Villa de Medici in Florence, Italy. Located in the Allan Hancock Foundation Building are four public rooms from the original Hancock mansion. The Reception Hall, Dining Room, Library and the Music Salon were carefully dismantled and installed on the University campus in 1939.

The Museum is open to the public by appointment.

The campus of USC covers an area of some 150 acres/60 hectares and 90 buildings the better known include the Schoenberg Institute, housing the works bequeathed by the composer.
