Pasadena - Norton Simon Museum of Art
The Norton Simon Museum of Art was founded in 1924 as the Pasadena Museum of Modern Art, and erected on its present site (corner of Orange Grove Boulevard) in 1969. In 1974 it was reorganized under the supervision of the industrialist Norton Simon, rebuilt and re-opened a year later as somewhere to display his own impressive collection. Larger works of contemporary art for which there is no room in Pasadena are on permanent loan to Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

The building that houses the museum was renovated in the late 1990s and now offers a dramatic setting for the art it contains. Some of the highlights of the museum include pieces by artists such as Rembrandt, Rigaud, Poussin, Chardin, Filippino Lippi, Raphael, Tiepolo, Rodin, Murillo, Zurbaran, and Goya. In addition to the museum's permanent collection there are also temporary exhibitions.
The grounds of the building are a treasure in and of themselves. The landscaping includes extensive gardens containing all kinds of plants, shrubs and trees, water features, and sculptures.
