Los Angeles Times Description
The Times building was designed in 1931 by architect Gordon Kaufmann. He was ordered to create a building that was "fireproof and earthquake proof and ... a monument to the progress of our city and of Southern California." Gordon's design is art deco, but subdued in order to blend in with the building's more conservative Civic Center neighbors. The circular lobby features a revolving globe and two murals by Hugo Ballin.
